✦ B2B Automation
Shopify B2B Ecommerce Automation
Wholesale operations rarely fail at the order. They fail in the gaps between systems — where someone rekeys an order into the ERP, emails a pick list, or updates a spreadsheet nobody else can see.
Capabilities
Where the manual work hides
Automation pays for itself fastest at the handoffs.
Application to Account
Approved applications creating companies, locations, and contacts automatically instead of being retyped into the admin.
Order to ERP
Orders flowing into your ERP or accounting system with the right company, terms, and cost centre attached.
Fulfilment & 3PL
Orders released to the warehouse and tracking returned to the buyer without an email in the middle.
Invoicing & Terms
Net-terms invoicing triggered by fulfilment, with balances visible to the buyer rather than requested from accounts.
Inventory Sync
Stock levels accurate across retail and wholesale so buyers are not ordering what you cannot ship.
Reorder Prompts
Replenishment reminders based on actual order cadence, which is the cheapest wholesale revenue you will find.
Automate the handoffs, not the decisions
The instinct with automation is to start with the visible work — the thing a person spends an hour on. Usually the better target is the invisible work: the thirty-second transfer of information between two systems that happens forty times a day. Those transfers are where errors enter, and they are the most reliable to automate because the rules are unambiguous.
Judgement should stay with people. Whether to extend credit to a new account, whether to accept a rush order, whether a customer's pricing should change — those are commercial decisions, and automating them badly is far more expensive than the time it saves. Automate the consequences of a decision, not the decision.
What to automate first
- Account creation on approval — the highest-volume retyping in most B2B operations
- Order transfer to whatever system holds your inventory and invoices
- Fulfilment status and tracking back to the buyer
- Invoice generation on shipment for net-terms accounts
- Inventory sync, especially where retail and wholesale share stock
- Reorder reminders based on each customer's real ordering cycle
Integrations are most of the work
B2B automation is mostly integration. Shopify is rarely the only system: there is an ERP, possibly a separate accounting package, a 3PL or warehouse system, and a CRM. Automation means those systems agreeing on what a company is, what an order is, and what state it is in — which is a data mapping problem before it is a technical one.
This is where a clean company account structure pays off. If your Shopify companies map cleanly to your ERP customer records, integration is straightforward. If they do not, every integration becomes a reconciliation project. We do that mapping before building anything.
Automation beyond ecommerce
Plenty of wholesale operations have manual work that has nothing to do with Shopify — quote preparation, sample requests, credit checks, document handling. Our wider AI consulting and business automation work covers those, and the same principle applies: automate the transfers and the routine, keep the judgement.

Common questions
Account creation on approval, then order transfer to your ERP. Those two are the highest-volume manual transfers in most wholesale businesses and the least ambiguous to automate.
Yes, through the Shopify API or an integration platform. The work that determines success is mapping your ERP customer records to Shopify companies and locations before building the connection.
Largely. Invoice generation on fulfilment, terms tracking, and balance visibility can all be automated. Credit decisions themselves should stay with a person.
Native Shopify B2B features require Plus. Some automation — order routing, inventory sync, notifications — can be done on lower plans, but the company and terms model that makes B2B automation worthwhile comes with Plus.
